Which business AI suite is GDPR-compliant and offers EU data residency?
All five vendors commit to not training on customer data and offer a data processing agreement. For EU data residency, though, look at the tier: with Google Gemini the EU data region for Gemini only starts at Enterprise Plus; with Notion, zero data retention and Frankfurt residency are Enterprise-exclusive; with ChatGPT, EU residency isn't established for the self-serve "Business" tier (Enterprise/Edu/API yes). Microsoft (EU Data Boundary, in-country processing for Germany from 2026) and Salesforce (Hyperforce EU) address EU processing more broadly - but even here there are exceptions (e.g. Microsoft's Flex Routing). Always confirm the specific guarantee contractually for your tier and use case.

When is a standard AI suite no longer enough?
Standard suites are strong for general tasks - writing, summarizing, searching, meetings. Their limit is reached when AI needs to work deeply on your specific processes, domain terminology and distributed data sources: when answers must be combined from multiple internal systems, when strict on-premise or data-sovereignty requirements apply, or when a standard assistant doesn't know your actual domain logic. Then the answer isn't the next-more-expensive license but a tailored application built on your data (e.g. via retrieval-augmented generation).
